One Cell, One Million Consequences

2020/2023 photomontage, print on canvas, on PVC

features the first detailed illustration of an animal cell through state-of-the-art nano-microscopic technology. It reminds us that from the animal cell to the human cell was a small step bearing a million consequences. It stands as a testament to human resilience, inspiring us to explore new frontiers in both self-expression and scientific discovery. Symbolically I dwell in the nucleus in life’s control center. Initially masked during the pandemic era, later, a transformation unfolds, and my smile returns. Both hands are free, symbolizing newfound freedom and resilience.
Within this microcosm, each cell part collaborates with my mind. Mitochondria, the cell’s “powerhouses,” fuel not only the cell but also my creative energy. The endoplasmic reticulum, with its ribosomes, forms a workshop, constructing knowledge’s foundation.
Deeper within, the Golgi apparatus processes information for transmission, while lysosomes rejuvenate old ideas. The cytoskeleton is mirroring my thought framework in artistic expression.
The cell membrane signifies my dynamic link to the world, symbolizing the ever-flowing exchange of ideas and inspiration. Meanwhile, vacuoles, like mental reservoirs, hold untapped potential and creative insights. The animal cell is not much different from the human cell, but the one percent makes all the difference. Humans and chimpanzees share 99% of the same DNA, and a recent study discovered that about 60 percent of genes are conserved between fruit flies and humans.
