Printemps

2023, National Library, Lisbon Performance 21 min, Silk dress, Projection, Books, Computer

This performance in the circular room at the National Library of Portugal celebrates the end of the exhibition “The Time of Images IV - Recent Editions of the Portuguese Silkscreen Center. Printemps delves into the convergence of the early practices of book creation, involving manual copying or printing, and the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. It took 1500 years to include the feature of page numbers into books and only 30 years since the beginning of the Internet to develop artificial intelligence. The choice of “spring” in the title alludes to the concept of renewal and growth typically associated with this colorful season, symbolizing new beginnings and the flourishing of nature. Just as past lives resemble prints, each life contributes a unique color, akin to pages in a book that collectively form the entirety of the narrative held within your hands. I want to thank RecAll for the filming and editing and the CPS: Antonio and Joao Prates for the organization. A full version will be available.
