Whiteness in Decay

San Diego Museum of Art, USA Sushi Center for Performance and Visual Arts, San Diego, USA, Permanent collection, Donated by Paulo Coelho Mixed-media performance installation (duration: 20-90 min.): Installation consists of plaster cast of my body, canvas dress, canvas projection screens, 3 projectors, 1 computer.

What nourishes your soul? The responses gracefully unfurl on the central canvas, as if being typed out. On the left and right, an intricate process unfolds: skin and fruit emerge with a distinctive cracking sound, and a brittle crust disintegrates. A blanket of plaster envelops everything, rendering all in a pristine white until vibrant hues burst forth as shells shatter and fruits and vegetables are consumed and transformed into paint. Three projections, three perspective: The left screen provides a human vantage point, intimate and marked by bold movements. The right canvas offers an aerial view, capturing the entire scene as the whiteness gradually evolves into a kaleidoscope of colors. It maintains a sense of detachment, where movements from above appear almost imperceptible. It’s a space for both attachment and detachment—while the central canvas nourishes your soul. The bird’s-eye view reveals the fruit shedding its white plaster shell and the white dress transforming into a vibrant living painting.

The installations that I build for Museums often include a performance. I love to create sculptures, video and augmented reality, social software features for larger museum productions, festivals, fairs, government buildings and private companies.
